"Take Flight!" (とんだっ!, Tonda!), called "Fly!" by the current official English distribution, is the second episode of the 2018 Captain Tsubasa series. It was originally broadcast on 10 April 2018.

Synopsis[]

Wakabayashi received a challenge from Ozora. He couldn’t hide his surprise about the immense power of Tsubasa's kick and says that he will accept his challenge if he can face Shutetsu B team, from whose main team Wakabayashi is the captain. While Nankatsu grade-schooler Ishizaki complains about the unfair conditions, Tsubasa accepts without hesitation. While the mysterious man Roberto Hongo watches over them, the two boys who later will turn the world of Japanese football upside down, facing each other for the first time!

Genzo proclaims to Tsubasa that if he manages to defeat his B team, he'll accept Tsubasa's challenge. Much to Ryo's chagrin, Tsubasa accepts the challenge.

On the field, Ryo points out that Tsubasa's shoes are inadequate to play against the B team, so Genzo has a player loan him some cleats. Fully prepared, Tsubasa talks to his ball as the B team watch and disparage him. At the start of the game, Tsubasa easily takes out three players, and circumnavigates threw the other players by dribbling. The Drunkard watches Tsubasa as he does this leading him to believe that he's the one. Finally reaching the goal, Tsubasa kicks the ball which almost lands inside the goal. Taking the initiative, the drunkard discards his whiskey and takes the ball. This makes Mikami realize the man's true identity as former pro-soccer player Roberto Hongo. Thanks to Roberto's kick and Tsubasa's headbutt, the ball lands inside the goal. In the process of it, however, Genzo's head slams into the right side of the goal post.

Livid by the loss, Genzo challenges Tsubasa to a match during the Inter-school tournament. If Tsubasa manages to score a goal during the match he'll concede defeat, regardless of who wins the tournament. To this, Tsubasa accepts the challenge and until the day of the tournament, Genzo allows his school to use the field. With that settled with, Genzo leaves with his team, but not before Tsubasa returns the borrowed cleats. Ryo then explains to Tsubasa about the Inter-school tournament and the rivalry between Nankatsu and Shutetsu.

Soon Roberto approaches the two boys and after introducing himself to them offers to coach them until the Inter-school tournament. Although Ryo is against the offer, Roberto shows his soccer skills to the two. Impressed by the Overhead Kick Roberto performed, Ryo agrees to allow him to be their coach, while Tsubasa tries and fails to perform the Overhead Kick himself. Not giving up, Tsubasa tries again, but fails, and as Tsubasa does this, Roberto notes the boy's determination to master soccer skills that he's witnessed.

Elsewhere, Kodai some messages from his wife Natsuko about Tsubasa bailing on her while they were moving.

Back to Tsubasa and his group, while dusk is setting in, finally after several tries, Tsubasa manages to land a goal with the Overhead Kick. Roberto in an elated mood embraces Tsubasa and showers him with praise.
