"Kick-off! Nankatsu vs Shutetsu" (キックオフ! 南葛VS修哲) is the sixth episode of the 2018 Captain Tsubasa series. It was originally broadcast on May 8th, 2018.

Synopsis[]

The game against Shutetsu has started! After the schools competed in baseball, volleyball, and judo, now the final game is soccer and it will decide which school will win the festival. Nankatsu eleven are coming on the field accompanied by cheers but are filled with nerves. On the other hand, is Genzo, who seems very relaxed and once again declares that this is a match between the two of them. Tsubasa, however, answers that he doesn’t only intend on challenging Wakabayashi, but also wants to win this game, so instead of taking a position as an ace striker, he places himself as a sweeper-defender in front of his own goal.

Plot[]

On the 22nd of April, at the Shutetsu school, the Nakatsu team arrive and are ready to play.

Meanwhile, Taro and his father Ichigo arrive and settle in at their new apartment. The view from the apartment has a great view of Mt. Fuji and Taro takes a picture of it with his phone and then heads off with his father.

At the Shutetsu school soccer field, Roberto sitting in the stands of the field is joined by Tsubasa's mother Natsuko. Roberto confines his thoughts about Tsubasa's progress and how the boy reminds him of himself in a lot of ways.

Perhaps unintentionally, Tsubasa manages to outrun all of the participants in the track and field race. Elsewhere, Ichigo paints a stone bridge by a river with Taro playing with his soccer ball nearby. Taro receives an email from a friend named Matsuyama.

By the playing field, the Yamabuki, Shutetsu Nishigaoka. Since Shutetsu and Nankatsu are tied in the tournament, the tiebreaker is decided to be the soccer game.

Right before the start of the match, in the locker room of the Nankatsu team, Ryo confesses to Tsubasa that he's glad that he met him. With that confession out of the way, the team heads to the field and are left astounded by the large audience. Roberto approaches the team and states that the larger the crowd the better the teams play. Furthermore, he states that Tsubasa will encounter large audiences like this in the future. Looking over at the Shutetsu Team, Tsubasa notices that Genzo isn't there. Although Genzo isn't there, the coach decides to play without him figuring they can easily handle the Nankatsu team.

Elsewhere, Taro practicing with his soccer ball while pondering out loud why he has to transfer to Nankatsu. Seeing a gap between a pole, Taro decides to shoot the ball between the said gap. When he does, Genzo is walking by and Taro tries to warn him, but Genzo merely catches the incoming ball with ease.

Eventually, Genzo arrives at the stadium and prepares for the upcoming match. Taro also finally makes it to the Nankatsu school and is greeted by Sanae who tells him about Tsubasa after seeing Taro with a soccer ball. Inside the stadium, Sanae points out Tsubasa and Taro recognizes him as the boy from the other day. After a pep talk from both teams, the game begins and surprisingly, Tsubasa is placed in the center-back. This and Tsubasa's play agitates Genzo and after Ryo tries to shoot a goal, Genzo easily blocks the ball. He then orders his team to prioritize on Tsubasa and score some goals as their goal is to reach 50 points.
