"Birth! Nankatsu Golden Combi" (誕生! 南葛黄金[ゴールデン]コンビ) is the eighth episode of the 2018 Captain Tsubasa series. It was originally broadcast on May 22, 2018.

Synopsis[]

The second half of the match against Shutetsu begins. Tsubasa and Roberto keep high the spirits of the team, but it does not lead to any goals for them so far. They also have to deal with Shutetsu's Birdcage strategy, which would lead them to a certain win if Nankatsu doesn’t break through it. Somehow, Ryo manages to break their strategy, but in the process, he hurts his leg. The team now faces their next issue, to search for a substitute player. That is when a boy called Taro Misaki introduces himself. He got transferred to Nankatsu that same day. Fortunately, the team decides to let him play with Ishizaki's jersey #11, thanks to his magnificent dribbling shown by beating Hanji and Takeshi (who abruptly wanted to prove their abilities in order to play with Tsubasa). Now, there are only ten minutes left until the end of the match. Who will be the winner?

Plot[]

Genzo once again catches one of Tsubasa's shots, which leaves him a bit distraught.

Skillfully dribbling the ball, Tsubasa passes the ball to Kenichi, who after dribbling it for a while passes it back to Tsubasa. In turn, Tsubasa gives the ball to Ryo who soon performs a cross-kick. The ball then is given a Diving Header by Tsubasa straight toward the goal, but the ball bounces away erratically. Believing that fortune is on their side, Genzo innerly proclaims that his team will win the game.

Before the start of the next game, Genzo tells his team that it's time to implement the "Birdcage" strategy. This strategy makes it hard for Tsubasa to be able to steal the ball from his opponent's team. The tactic of this place is to exhaust enough time until the game is over allowing the team to win by the single point they have. Not wanting to give up, Ryo takes a shot at trying to get the ball, however, he gets caught up in the Birdcage too. In the process, Ryo manages to break the birdcage, however, he hurts his leg by a sliding kick from Hajime. Tsubasa now handling the ball, he finally manages to score a goal in the end. On the other hand, the goal came at a great cost as Ryo is put out of commission.

Seeing an opportunity to help, Taro enters the field. After introducing himself, Taro checks Ryo's foot and deduces that it's been sprained. Meanwhile, feeling that he's lost, Genzo tries to leave, but is stopped by his mentor Tatsuo and convinced to stay by the team coach. After showing his skills after besting both Hanji and Takeshi in a small soccer ability match, Taro joins the team.

The extra match then begins with 10 minutes left on the clock. Both Taro and Tsubasa display great skill and confidence in their gameplay together. When Taro takes a shot, he doesn't manage to make a goal as Genzo catches the ball.

Now only 5 minutes remaining in the game in the second half, both teams are determined to get the upper hand on the other. In a radical move, Genzo leaves his goal post again, shots the ball, and scores. All now seeming hopeless with Shutetsu now having a single point lead in the game. Nankatsu plan on their counterattack.
