"Kojiro Appears" (さわやかな幕切れ, Sawayaka na Makugire) is the tenth episode of the 2018 Captain Tsubasa series. It was originally broadcast on June 5th, 2018.
Synopsis[]
The Nankatsu elementary starts preparing to join the Nankatsu SC for the Yomiuriland tournament. Tsubasa and the others were among thirty other boys who were chosen to start training together and have a chance to become a part of the final fifteen boys who will form the team. It has been decided that they will be split into two teams with Genzo and the others from Shutetsu. Suddenly, a mysterious tough kid stands before them. His name is Kojiro Hyuga. With his perfect and exciting play technique, he takes away the ball from the Shutetsu members with ease. And then he fires a powerful shot at the goal that Wakabayashi protects!
Plot[]
Due to his excessive and harsh soccer play, the soccer player named Kojiro Hyuga quits his team.
Meanwhile, Tsubasa practices soccer on the field with Taro and their coach Roberto. Elsewhere, Ryo is practicing with his former teammates, while the players to Shutetsu practice their soccer skills too. During this practice, a player accidentally steps on Genzo's left calf.
Back to Tsubasa's group, Taro explains the various soccer teams that he knows of, due to transferring to many schools because of his father's job. One player that he notes that should be taken seriously is a player by the name of Kojiro who belongs to the Meiwa FC. Apparently his soccer skills are on par with Tsubasa's. On their way home, the group runs into Genzo who's heading home too.
That night in the streets, Tsubasa practices ball hovering with Roberto and notes that he wants to meet Kojiro in person. They then talk about players in Brazil and Tsubasa promises to Roberto that he'll stay in Brazil until he becomes a pro-soccer player. However, this is only if Tsubasa wins the national tournament. Roberto then shows Tsubasa a display of pro leg strength. Just to give him a general idea of what he's working with.
Finally, the day of the Nankatsu Youth Soccer tryouts has arrived. Since 15 players are needed for the game, and there are 30 plausible players, the players are divided into two groups of 15. One of the teams would be mainly made up of players from Shutetsu and the other mixed. Once the match begins, Kojiro interferes with the game by sitting atop one of the goalposts. After introducing himself to Genzo, he leaps from the goalpost and challenges him. Single handily, Kojiro steals the ball and taking out the opposing team players on the way, lands a goal. Upset by this uncouth sportsmanship, Tsubasa wants to make a move, but is stopped by Taro. Upon seeing Taro, Kojiro openly declares that the winner of the tournament will be Meiwa FC and leaves the scene. Internally, Taro warns Kojiro about a great adversary he'll encounter named Tsubasa. On the other hand, Genzo is left feeling pensive and leaves the field.
Afterward, Ryo, Taro, and Tsubasa encounter Genzo walking out of an orthotics place. He reveals to them about his injured calf which played a part in him being unable to catch Kojiro's shot.
The following day, we witness a bit of Kojiro's home life. His mother has taken it upon herself to do various jobs to survive after his father passed away. Kojiro as well works, to make ends meet and figures he'll need to make more money once he reaches middle school.
Elsewhere, Roberto reveals to Tsubasa's parents that Tsubasa will only be able to go to Brazil unless he wins the national tournament.
We then see Kojiro reveal to his former teammates that he's leaving the team in order to play in the nationals. One of the players then explains to the other players that a year ago, Kojiro lost his father and because of this seeks to earn money from his soccer.
The day of the National Tournament has arrived and once again, Ryo, Taro, Tsubasa, and Genzo have made the final cut. Nankatsu's team manages to beat their first opponents, allowing them to progress into the 2nd round and onwards. However, since his former team is having trouble, Kojiro decides to help them out.
