History[]

Captain Tsubasa (MCD) & Captain Tsubasa (FC)[]

Main article: Genzo Wakabayashi

Captain Tsubasa II: Super Striker[]

He is known as the "Guardian Deity of the East" for his ironclad goalkeeping. His defense is perfect, especially when he is fired up, and there is a legend that no one can score against him from outside the penalty area. Already a West German Bundesliga player, he has signed a contract with Hamburger and now plays an active role in both the youth team and the top team.

Wakabayashi joined the youth squad of Hamburger SV, participating in the Japan Cup in order to strengthen himself and All Japan Youth for the upcoming World Youth. After the tournament, he became part of All Japan.

Captain Tsubasa III: Kotei no Chosen[]

Wakabayashi became the regular keeper of Hamburger SV. When facing Karl Heinz Schneider in the Bundesliga, Wakabayashi noted that the German players were up to something, as most of the key players went overseas to train, while Schneider was keeping his Neo Fire Shot a secret.

Wakabayashi later joined All Japan Youth after the team traveled to Germany to participate in the Universal Youth.

Captain Tsubasa IV: Pro no Rival-tachi[]

He is known as the "Guardian Deity of the East" and is an ironclad goalkeeper. It is said that he can stop any shot done from outside the penalty area. But there is one striker who has scored five goals against him in one game from outside the penalty area. Who is that person?

As Wakabayashi entered the professional world way before his teammates in Japan, he got to experience the level of the best professional players much sooner than the others. In some routes, he revealed that players like Van Berg and Jean Pierre Pipin had scored multiple goals against him from outside of the penalty area in one match, and he would like to settle the debt with them.

Captain Tsubasa V: Hasha no Shogo Campione[]

He is the number one keeper in the Bundesliga. However, he has recently started to feel a little unsatisfied (with the opponents) because his defense is so impregnable.

Wakabayashi had greatly improved, and even managed to win the previous Footballer of the Year in Europe award. After that, he kept getting offers from various teams around the world. Wakabayashi did not pay much attention at first; however, one day he noticed an offer of contract from Genoa, something he hadn't been receiving before. The attached letter said while Genoa was not a very strong team and could not offer a high salary, they could give Wakabayashi what he wanted - strong rivals, as there were many of those in the Serie A, while the Bundesliga only had Karl Heinz Schneider. During the match against Frankfurt, as he learned about Schneider's injury, Wakabayashi saw that the other opponents were indeed not strong enough, and decided to go to Italy.

Wakabayashi later joined Japan to participate in the World Tournament. The team faced Germany in the quarterfinals. A leveled-up Schneider and Muller managed to give Japan much trouble. After the match, Schneider asked Wakabayashi whether he would still go to Italy, as Schneider had recovered and became stronger than ever. Wakabayashi said that he did want to go to Italy, but then decided to decline the transfer to Serie A and remain in Bundesliga.
