Makoto Kitazume (北詰 誠, Kitazume Makoto) is a Japanese coach that appeared in the Captain Tsubasa manga series.
Description[]
Makoto Kitazume is a coach who never put his convictions aside, they're his pride and the foundation of his coaching. He is even willing to resign when he's going against these principles. For him, the team is more important the individuals. Therefore, unlike many other coaches, he might not use a great player, like Kojiro Hyuga, if said player is acting selfishly.
History[]
Prior to Boys' Fight[]
Kitazume was the coach of Toho Academy MS during Kojiro Hyuga's first two years in middle school. In both years, the team became runners-up of the National Middle School Soccer Tournament after losing against Nankatsu in the final.
Boys' Fight[]
In Hyuga's third year, Toho won the Tokyo prefectural qualifying tournament after a hard fight against Jun Misugi's Musashi. After the match, Hyuga left for Okinawa to train with Kozo Kira. However, since he left without warning, Kitazume decided to exclude him from his scholarship and to not play him in the 16th National Middle School Soccer Tournament.
Even after Toho was being led in the semi-finals against Meiwa Higashi, Kitazume still prevented Hyuga from playing. However, he did see that the players still have faith in Hyuga even though he left them and his responsibilities behind. With Hyuga encouraging the team, Toho managed to reverse the score.
Before the final, Hyuga was willing to bow down and beg Kitazume to let him play. Despite this and the letter that explained the situation from Kira, Kitazume still stuck to his own convictions as that he had never put them aside before. But after seeing that all other Toho players are also willing to bow and beg him, Kitazume had Hyuga face Sorimachi, Sawada and Wakashimazu, saying that he would allow Hyuga to play if the latter defeat the three of them, which he managed to do thanks to his Tiger Shot.
Having cast aside his convictions because of this, Kitazume resigned from his position as coach, feeling that he was not worthy to lead anymore. He revealed this news to the players after the final, refusing Hyuga's request to leave the team in the process. The players then bid him farewell and thanked him for everything he did.
J Boys' Challenge[]
At the end of the arc, Kitazume was seen coaching an unspecified team.
Road to 2002[]
Kitazume went to Italy to cheer for Hyuga as the latter was about to have his debut match in the Serie A.
