The Overhead Clear (オーバーヘッドクリア) is a block used by some players in the manga series and the Tecmo game series.

Description[]

In the manga, it is just called a "clear", as some players do clear the ball for defending the goal with an overhead. It is called Overhead Block (オーバーヘッドブロック) exclusively in Captain Tsubasa: Tatakae Dream Team.

Pierre first demonstrated this block technique when he stopped the Tachibana's Skylab Twin Shot in the extra time of the semifinals. Before the final whistle of the match, Misugi used a last-ditch overhead to stop France shots with trajectories that could not otherwise be stopped.

Known users[]

Several players can do this technique if they have a notion of how to apply a regular Overhead but as a way to block the opponent's attack near their own team's P.K. area.

Captain Tsubasa V[]

It consists of an Overhead Kick who aims to clear the ball from the player's own area, but the player does more than block the ball: he rotates his body so as to grab the ball after doing the Overhead. Using it can be risky. The problem is that Tsubasa rarely intercepts the ball in the area and when he does it is not usually necessary to clear the ball anywhere. If this technique had a defender, like Ishizaki, it would be many times more invaluable. It is cheap in stats.
